There have been numerous articles in the paper recently with one thing in common. The way old soldiers are being unfairly treated by various Authorities in Blair's Britain. Today their is an article about an old soldier being denied the cost of a care home because the NHS consider he is not ill enough. A few weeks ago there was another story about retired Gurkha soldiers being treated shabbily by another Authority. And the list goes on and on.
If we can't give the people who fought for this country the justice they deserve then god help the rest of us! Just what is the point in risking your life to ensure your country is free when the country you fought for turns round and stuffs you at the end of your days. I can just imagine a future version of Kitchener's poster, YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU (BUT WE WILL STUFF YOU WHEN YOU NEED US)

Over the last few years Government has given Authorities more and more powers to use against the citizens of this country. Conversely during the same period they have reduced the likelihood of a citizen obtaining justice by introducing more and more impotent, incompetent, ineffective and biased watchdogs. Every day you read another story about an unaccountable, overzealous and incompetent official committing serious acts of injustice against members of the public. However, whilst the so called watchdogs allow these officials to escape any sort of real punishment, members of the public are now given criminal records for such trivial things as putting rubbish in the wrong bin. Its about time the government balanced the scales of justice by replacing watchdogs with a proportional, effective, equitable and open system of social justice. Or in the alternative make the Authorities use the same ineffective system the public are forced to use.

It looks like this is the future for people who are ignored by corrupt organisations such as the Local Government Ombudsman. The internet has allowed people power to take a hold in this country and the sooner they use it to get rid of the biased, unfair and totally corrupt Local Government Ombudsmen the better. Then let's move on to corrupt local authorities, the well known breeding ground for corrupt ombudsmen.
And I should know, P Thomas

Why not put a petition on the e-gov site every few months. Different wording of course but if may help chip away at the government's confidence in local government ombudsmen. Let's face it, we lost confidence in them years ago!

Redmond must be pig sick. Two years after coming to office LGOwatch started. No doubt that's why Osmotherly bailed out when he did. Like most public servants they move on before the damage they have done hits the fan. That's why Seex left Norwich council. Still after 6 years he still hasn't improved the system so it must be his time to move on before the damage he has done hits the fan. Next ombudsman please!

Yes, if he stays any longer he may not get the customary gong when ombudsmen leave office. Osmotherly got out at the right time and managed a Knighthood, Thomas left a few years later but unlike Ossie didn't get a top gong. If things keep getting worse Tony may even end up gongless. Wouldn't that be a shame!

Although not directly involved it was just a few years after she started that the Balchins were stuffed by another local government ombudsman. Mrs Thomas became a local government ombudsman 1985, both you and the Baclins were stuffed in the 90s. It would appear that the timing supports the argument that Mrs Thomas was indeed instrumental in changing the system to benefit the councils at the expense of complainants.

I can best be described as the LGO's nemesis. What I find interesting is that I was born in Lancaster, lived in Morecambe and went to Morecambe and Lancaster College and also Preston Polytechnic. I also worked in the area between 1963 & 1975 and know Over Kellet quite well. I left the area in 1975. My relatives still live in the area. I also have a connection to London because my father was born in London and moved to Lancashire, albeit a lot earlier than Mrs Thomas. Mrs Thomas handled my complaint in 1997 and made a complete hash of it. 10 years later and I am still waiting for it to be resolved. When I'm next in the area visiting my relatives I must remember to pop in and pick some fruit.

Mrs Thomas, York Local Government Ombudsman was also involved in my complaint. She spent more time trying to please the council than she ever did investigating my complaint. Why did she feel the need to suck up to council chief executive officers?

All toothless tigers have to suck up to their prey otherwise they don't eat. Local Authorities pay their pension not complainants! No contest, who would you suck up to?

I agree with Thomas and Trevor but I would wouldn't I. Although I posted the wording for the petition credit must go to Gary LGOwatch because I used his article about Chipperfield as the basis for the petition. I also think the petition would be better if it was submitted by an organisation rather than an individual. If any of our supporters can polish my efforts please feel free. The more tightly worded and polished the petition the better for all of us. If we can get enough supporter and friends to sign the petition at least the PM has to respond.

I agree with Thomas, option three would also be my choice. It offers background and support information, adds credibility by using Chipperfields name, tells people how the LGO and their allies subverted his report, proves that things haven't changed, mentions LGOwatch and pushes all the right buttons.
I have looked at the E-Gov petition site and organisations as well as individuals can submit petitions. I suggest that the petition is submitted in the name of LGOwatch, firstly it would allow a link back to the website and secondly it demonstrate to the Government that the petition was supported by an organisation and not just the efforts of just one or two people.
I suggest that everyone is given a chance to refine the petition (if they can) and then we ask LGOwatch to submit the petition on our behalf. Would 10 days give people enough chance to comment on or edit the petition?

covering up council maladministration, taking the heat off councils, making expensive litigation far less likely, providing ex council staff with well paid emloyment, allowing a means whereby former council chief executives can carry on with their 'good work', providing the councils with a great spin-doctoring service, giving the councils no incentive to improve their performances, allowing councils to pay out as little as possible, making it as difficult as possible for complainants to receive any type of justice, detering citizens from bringing any further complaints ......... and the list goes on!
